Hector Canales

Personal and Educational Background

Mr. Canales was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. He received his B.A. degree in Government from Dartmouth College in 1995 and his J.D. from the University of Houston in 1998. Mr. Canales and his wife, Dr. Lynae Canales, have three sons.

Legal Career

Throughout his career Mr. Canales has handled a wide variety of litigation for a diverse clientele. Mr. Canales began his career in Houston, Texas at Hill & Parker, P.C. representing individuals in pharmaceutical and medical device mass torts.  During his first three years of practice Mr. Canales participated in multiple trials including the first Fen-Phen trial (Harris County State Court) and Sulzer Hip Implant trial (Nueces County State Court). After practicing four years in Houston, in 2002 Mr. Canales returned to Corpus Christi to practice with his father, J.A. “Tony” Canales and sister Patricia Canales-Bell. Over the past fifteen years Mr. Canales has tried to verdict cases in the Southern District of Texas, State Court jurisdictions including Harris, Nueces, Jim Wells, Duval, Hidalgo, Starr and McMullin County and in arbitration proceedings before the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). Mr. Canales has participated in multiple high profile white collar criminal trials including the Enron Broadband Criminal Trial (U.S.A. vs. Yeager, et al., in the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division), Iraq Oil for Food Criminal Trial (U.S.A. v. Oscar S. Wyatt, Jr., in the Southern District of New York), and Maurico Celis Falsely Holding Out as Lawyer Criminal Trial (State of Texas v. Celis, in the 105th Judicial District Court, Nueces County, Texas).Mr. Canales has taken verdicts representing all sides of the docket including plaintiffs, civil defendants and criminal defendants. Mr. Canales has also taken responsibility on various state and federal appellate matters and successfully upheld verdicts he and others have obtained and reversed unfavorable trial court rulings.Mr. Canales has successfully argued before the Texas Supreme Court, 13th Court of Appeals and 4th Court of Appeals. Mr. Canales is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Southern District of Texas, Western District of Texas and Eastern District of Texas. Mr. Canales is a member, selected by his peers, of the Amberican Board of Trial Advocates and International Society of Barristers.
